Today marks the 10th day of the first month of the Islamic Calendar, also known as Ashura day. It was on this day, just over 13 centuries ago, Hussain chose to make the ultimate stand against oppression and for the rights and freedom of those around him.
Hussain, along with not more than 72 of his family and companions, were all brutally killed in what is known as The Battle of Karbala by an army of more than 30,000.
Today, the tragedy of Karbala is remembered by millions worldwide in solemn commemoration. Millions flock to his shrine and resting place today in Karbala, Iraq. They do this every year, for Hussain’s message is timeless.
